Ray’s separation anxiety training was working out quite well in May, and I would have comfortably left him alone for 5 mins by the end of that month. June however has started of with a number of other areas that needed attention (just general life stuff) and, while he is certainly a major factor in our life, there are times when other priorities become necessary The end result is that we have to start training again soon, and will be pretty much back to the beginning once again!
His apparent lack of energy is being monitored and it becomes more and more likely that he is just reacting to heat and humidity. We had a cool day a few days ago and took Ray on a trail walk which lasted just over two hours and he was fine, although understandably tired at the end (as were we!).
Yesterday was quite hot but, during the evening, it cooled down and there was a nice breeze. We took Ray out and, while he did cut the walk short (probably 30 mins), he played with his old chewed up tennis ball when we got back. I would throw it, and he would take off at full speed to get it; whip it across the garden, and then go charging after it again! I really don’t think that there is much wrong with our boy!
Finally, I had promised a long time Follower that I would include a pic of a Turkey Vulture. As I couldn’t get to this topic in any other way……… Ray is still a voracious eater and will checkout anything that is lifeless and remotely edible!
It’s good to know that Ray’s lack of energy is probably just the heat and humidity! I imagine that’s a relief

I guess we worry about him too much. It’s like being parents all over again (but without the inevitable “terrible teens”! 🙂

Always fun to watch them toss toys/balls and then chase them. Sam is not enjoying the heat here either but rebounds in the cool of the evening. 🙂

The afternoon siesta makes so much sense. I wonder why dogs “get it” but we don’t? 🙂

Thanks Liz. So are we… and no doubt Ray! 🙂

Hi Ray. We have turkey vultures around here too. When you see them on the side of the road eating, they are really rather ugly birds. They are, however, nature’s effective garbage disposals.

Hi Lexi – Big birds bother me a little. I would chase Canada Geese if I was allowed to! Woof! Ray.

Glad to hear Ray is doing okay! I know I have to keep Storm in watch & can’t let her play as long on these hot days as bulldogs can easily overheat.

Good for you re Storm. 🙂

I’m glad to hear the lethargy is looking more like just the weather.
As for the turkey vulture, oddly enough, the Dog Walk Challenge going up later today has one in it – we randomly ran into one on our walk yesterday morning.

If you get a chance for a close up of one, their face is….. well …… only a mother could love a face like that!

That is for sure! The one I saw on the walk was rather small. A few years ago, I nearly hit one coming over a hill as it ate something in the road. That one was enormous. I was amazed it could even fly!

Glad to hear Ray is doing OK and almost back to normal on cooler days/evenings. Mags is curled up against my shoes in the coolest part of the boat at the moment (under our little coffee table…… it’s amazing how she fits!) 🙂

I am constantly amazed at how both dogs and cats can get themselves into some interesting places. The joys of flexibility! 🙂

Happy Monday, Colin! Hope Ray is not suffering too much from the heat. Oh, and what a fantastic photo of that bird!

When we are up on the Niagara Escarpment, they circle below us and slowly climb past us. Great opportunity for pics, and you get a better sense of their size when you are about 20-30ft away! As for Ray, and considering his permanent attire, he is handling things extremely well. Lots of rest in a cool home. Outside only when he has to!!

Glad to hear that Ray appears to be fine!! Good luck with your patience as you begin training him once again, hoping it goes well. I have never seen a Turkey Vulture, a good picture of him in mid-flight.

Turkey Vultures are huge and very impressive. Thankfully they’re no threat as long as you keep moving! 🙂

Yes, seeing how big it appeared in the picture I was going to say, I think I am content to see them in pictures! 🙂

With a wing-span of up to 6 feet, and weighing in around 5 pounds, they are awesome… but the real beauty is to watch them in flight as they circle on the air currents looking for snacks! They are so graceful and seem to fly effortlessly! We love them!

Wow! They weigh as much as our Yorkie!

Now there’s a comparison! The Turkey Vulture could probably fly off with him if his menu included live animals… but it doesn’t. However, we do have large Hawks that are more than interested and very capable of lifting a warm meal off the ground. Many a cat and small dog has gone missing and the Hawk is a prime suspect!

Hmmm…may have to rethink about moving to Canada 🙂

Just remember the reason that you might be thinking of such a move. I doubt if you will be rethinking for long! 🙂
