Our standard lunchtime routine is to eat in the end of our kitchen where we have a small seating area. I usually sit on a white wicker two-seater, and Carol will sit on the matching chair. Ray will sit on the floor, very upright and between us, and do his best to hold eye contact with both of us! His motives are blatantly obvious, and they usually work.
Just recently however, I was unable to be there at lunch time and Ray, being the routine driven guy that he is, apparently did not know quite how to handle this change in routine. Carol sent me the following pic!
He had parked himself in the right spot, but his usual excitement about a meal time seems to have been replaced with confusion and possibly feelings of dejection!
Ain’t it nice to be missed? 😉

I am also quite looking forward to the raucous welcome back that is anticipated! 🙂

Perhaps you have solved a mystery – that of who gives Ray more food from the table?

Awww! It’s so hard to be away from pets for us and for them. And I believe Ray truly misses you for more than just because you give him food. It sounds like you have a connection with him and him with you! 🙂

He is one of the family… and knows it! We look after him in our own way, and he looks after us in his own way. Great teamwork! 🙂

Truly a sad face and one prepared to let you know how he felt about you being gone! But I am sure when reunited that the joy of seeing you will make him quickly “forgive” you 🙂

Of course he will. That’s his nature, but it is also his nature to make it quite clear that he did not approve of my change of schedules!

You are so right Cupcake. I really don’t like it when the pack is not all together after all, it’s my job to protect them… and I can hardly do that if they keep going in different directions! Woof! Ray.

Of course he did…… I give him food! Let’s not kid ourselves, he’ll be anybody’s best friend if food is involved!

Food/treats is the best training tool and it’s a myth that it’s only labs that do anything for it!

Based on Ray’s performance… Yup! Total myth! 🙂

Aw. Poor guy. I used to give my old dog a treat. Basically, I saved the last bite of my meal for her. She knew it and expected it. My Mom used to laugh, I’d put my hand down with her treat not even realizing I was doing it. Hope the pickings improve for Ray 🙂

That’s exactly where Ray is having a problem. He will usually get a little something from me, so he is in a “Where’s Dad?” mode at the moment! 🙂

Awh…. he really looks confused.

He’s probably totally disgruntled with us for changing our routines. I shall no doubt hear about it soon as he expresses himself very well! 🙂

He has a very expressive face and Rottweiler eyes which command attention. His message will be loud and clear (my apologies for my choice of words… but it says it all) – “I am pissed off with you! Welcome back Dad!”

Hi Speedy. There truly is not much “poor” about Ray, and I would question an almost 80lbs Shepherd/Rotti being called “baby”!!! He has a very good life! 🙂

Hi Speedy – Humans in general seem to have that same trait. Whatever they have… it’s not enough! Woof! Ray.
