After our snowfalls of a few days ago, we went into a mild spell of weather which melted much of it however, over last night, we had another fall of snow with some rain mixed in. The result was a very sticky and slushy mess under foot, but a beautiful “Christmas card” scene above ground due to the snow sticking to all the shrubs and trees.
Our garden visitors are seen in a completely different perspective when against a snowy backdrop! Of course, when Ray is out and about in the garden, we see little more than a few squirrels expressing their annoyance from high up in the trees, and a few birds that are watching his every move… but such a visual contrast in seasons!
Just gotta luv Winter!
Beautiful shot. What kind of bird is that?

Hi Michael. It’s a Cardinal which, like most birds, has the male showing the most colorful display. 🙂

We don’t have cardinals but I actually say a Blue Jay earlier in the week. Usually only see them up in the mountains so that was a real treat! 🕊

We get Blue Jays as well. Beautiful….. but noisy! 🙂

And certainly not the neatest of birds. They leave partial seeds everywhere!

Therein is a problem! With seeds all over the ground, and bird poop mixed in…… and a dog that vacuums up everything within reach, we have to limit our bird feeding! 🙂

Thank you. It took a number of factors for mother nature to bring together at the same time, and a camera capable of doing it justice! 🙂

When our world appears to be awash with negativity and disappointment, it is refreshing to “step back” and just observe nature. While it too has its negativity and disappointments, the beauty can also be seen by any observer. 🙂

We got a mix of rain and snow last night to, but mostly rain. Still waiting for our first real snowfall!

Beautiful. We have the RSPB garden watch here at the end of January. I didn’t do it last year, but did the year before and spotted 18 different types of bird here, I was quite surprised.

It really surprises me how much variety of life there is living among us, but it can go totally unnoticed unless one makes the effort to just stop and watch for a while. 🙂

It’s a shame when we realise just how much we can miss.

Technically, the shame is probably not so much in realizing how much is being missed, but rather in doing nothing about it having had that revelation. 🙂
