Just me!

I have a number of fine qualities (my biased opinion of course) which are giving me “challenges” at the present.

One that triggered this Post is my total aversion to procrastination. If something needs to be done, then get it done and move on.

Another quality is my desire to tackle anything. There are books that can help, and there are usually people to ask, and there is simply many years of learning. All those things are “tools” to assist. There are some things which I now accept that I cannot do (or do not want to do), but I have had to prove it to myself first!

Then there is an inherent desire to help others where I can.

Putting those factors together generally presents a rather active and busy lifestyle, which is where I am at now… on a mental overload! This must not be interpreted as negative. From my perspective, I can reflect back and see so many things in my past that I am very happy about. I therefore see no reason to change, but some times my mind and body must take a step back to “re-group the troops” before continuing on!

My immediate future includes promoting “Who Said I was up for Adoption?”; getting “Just Thinking” published;  co-authoring stories for “children big and small” with Carolyn Shelton (2 books); completing one more railway route for a gaming software company; helping/guiding our neighbor through many home renovations; doing some upgrades and general maintenance on our home; transferring my vinyl records to my laptop; getting back into running; getting into a weights lifting routine in order to slow down the breakdown of muscle (aging!); getting into a routine for flexibility (again to counter aging); getting back into multi-track recording with guitar and keyboard; getting out on both my road bike and mountain bike on a regular basis… and still have time for Carol, Ray, family and friends!

More recently, a lack of sleep during those times when one is supposed to sleep is giving me some issues (my Dad had the same problem at my age)! I really do love my life, but 24 hours a day is currently insufficient and so I have to make some adjustments. One rather time consuming activity has been this Blog, which I fully intend to keep active, but will no longer give the priority necessary for a Post every day (you may have noticed no Post yesterday).

Please be assured that future Posts about Ray, and my life in general, will still be forthcoming. I shall still look forward to your Comments, and shall still respond to all of them. The frequency of Posts will however decrease just a little as I try to find a workable routine that only takes 24 hours/day… which will hopefully include 6-7 hours of sleep!

  1. Love this affectionate banter, love your writing, Colin. So do put exercise back on your schedule along with rest. The lack of sleep is the root of all evils, or the beginning of all prat falls.🙃 signing off for now, (signed) Sleepless in a one-horse-town

    • I agree. Exercise must go back into my day’s activities, and the peculiar part is that I do enjoy a sense of satisfaction having completed (e.g.) a run! So why is it hard to incorporate into my schedule? Just has to be conflicting priorities… and only I can resolve that one! 🙂

  2. I’m right with you on this one. I have never tried to post every day – tho’ I do visit and comment for many hours every day – most days, anyway. Even so, I have been overwhelmed posting 3x/week and have decided to drop back to 2.

Getting away for a short bit recently allowed me to realize how close to the burn-out edge I’d come – and having my friend Sam overnight at both ends of the trip made me aware that I *really* need more time to attend to housekeeping details. And then there are a few quality of life details that have been sacrificed and need to be put back into my life. ::sigh:: We need a staff, right?

  3. Hi Collin. Prioritizing is important, and I think you will find that posting a few times a week will be helpful and enough. I will still look forward to reading about what is going on with Ray and his family. 🙂

  4. Hi Colin & Co. I am in somewhat of a similar position myself.
I admire your attitude and outlook and am so glad and fortunate to have you as an online pal. We’ll get there, make it through. 😁🍻

  5. Goodness! I declare myself exhausted just reading about all your activities.Blogging tends to take up a lot of time. I have been off-line for three weeks and it is now rather difficult to get back into the swing of things, so I took the morning off and went to the beach 😀 Priorities! I agree that exercise is very important at our age and I intend to keep up my daily swimming and hiking regime. Enjoy whatever you do and kisses to Ray.

  6. With your list of things to do, you make me tired, and I am A LOT younger. 🙂
I believe i will have to get my bike out today. Is there a certain amount of miles that you try to go each time when you do get on your bike?
Yes, I did notice your post missing yesterday. How could I not notice something missing that typically brings a smile to my face. 🙂
But there is nothing wrong with cutting back. You need to take care of yourself and not stress yourself out. Get some ZZZZZ’s! 🙂

    • … and I didn’t mention the photo album record of my family that I would like to do… and all the new grass needed cutting yesterday… and the fish tank is due for a good clean and partial change of water… and the two garden sheds need to be organized for Summer rather than Winter… and the front porch floor and rails need re-finishing… and perhaps I should sell my car as I hardly use it… and I must investigate hearing aids… and change my will… and wash down the outside of our house… and pull up all the maple leaf keys that rooted this Spring… and we might have visitors this August… and I want to visit Melanie some time… and we have no beer or wine in the house (just the empties)… and… and…!
As for biking? As with any physical activity, I plan around my perceived ability, and work from there. I used to regularly ride 100km (62 miles), but my next ride (the first in a long time) will be around the streets here and probably be around 25km (15m).

      • LOL! Shaking my head. 🙂 Selling your car? My daughter wants a car. 🙂
Hearing aids can definitely be beneficial!
No wine in the house?? You need to rectify that situation. You need some for those Hot August summer evenings as you relax in your backyard.
62 miles on your bike! Now probably 15 miles! 15 miles is still impressive.
I believe I am feeling a little like Dewey. 🙂

  7. Sleep is a good thing! Having to sleep at a certain time can be difficult though, I feel your pain. I will miss daily posts from you and Ray, but I do hope you get the sleep you are searching for…
