Our hot weather continues but, the other day, the merciless sun was accompanied by a breeze coming off the lake. That was all we needed to walk Ray down there and let him splash around on a long leash! Traditionally he has loved the lake, just as he has loved sticks, so the shoreline of Lake Ontario must seem close to heaven to him!
Here he is having rescued a stick, and is now trying to get it to cooperate! Note that in typical Ray character, his front feet serve to stabilize and control whatever he is working on at the time!
Getting Ray into the lake on a hot day (probably any day really!) is not a problem, but if you want him in fast…. throw a stick!
He is still not happy when the water touches his stomach but, given the necessity to leash him, that’s probably a good thing as he is always going to be within easy reach should he get into difficulties and panic!
We had one very wet and happy dog accompanying us home later!
He may have been wet but we can only imagine his contentment.

I so wish my two knuckleheads liked sticks and water. They just stare at me if I throw something as if I’m from another planet. Way to go, Ray!

Ray has never mastered “Fetch” and gives a similar stare. He will cooperate initially but then give you a “I got it for you once, and you threw it away again. You get it now!” look. 🙂

Mine give me the “why did you throw that?” look. So weird because every other dog I’ve ever owned loved the fetch game.

His life didn’t start off too good… so he now deserves it! His full story is in his book “Who Said I was up for Adoption?”

Ray looks like he’s having a ball! Great to cool off like that in the lake. 🙂

He loves it, and we are so lucky living about 10-15 mins walk away from it. 🙂

How fun! Even in the summer that cold lake must be a shocker to Ray’s belly. 🙂

L. Ontario is pretty good around now. Quite comfortable to paddle/swim in… but there is still that initial discomfort of course until one adjusts! 🙂

I looked it up and Google said it is 66F, way too cold for this chick. 🙂

Hi Amy. The Toronto beaches are very popular at this time of year for swimmers, and small children who just want to splash around. For me? I’ll paddle into the lake to give Ray some latitude if he needs it… but that first step in is a bit of a shock to the system!:)
