Ray and I share an apple on a regular basis. I simply quarter the apple, and then slice up one of the quarters for him. He is very familiar with this routine so I become his instant best friend as soon as he hears the cutting! My eating is paced so that we both finish at the same time… well that’s only fair!
The video below is a selfie so accurate positioning of the camera was a challenge, but some intuitive moving (around the 1:20 mark in the movie) resolved an obvious oversight!
The hammering/shot gun sounds are a roofing crew two doors down laying new shingles!

It reminds me of how I used to share an apple with my horse, Prince. I got the first bite, and he got the rest….which Prince thought was more than fair.

Great understanding of hand commands. Oh, I meant Ray. Apples, yum! Lexi loved to eat the peels as they flew to the floor when I was making a pie.

Any activity in our kitchen is guaranteed to have Ray very close by and, in the event that something edible is dropped…. it sometimes never reaches the floor!

What a true pleasure it is to see someone interact with their pup with so much love like I have for my girls Kali and Kloe. Ray is one handsome and respectful boy. The love you have for one another is palpable. Thanks for sharing a tender moment.

Glad you enjoyed it Michael and, as I have said so many times over the life of this blog, his previous owners have no idea what they are missing. It took about a year to get Ray to be fairly sociable, and another three years to get him where he is at today… but four years is really not a huge amount of time to commit to a dog and realize its potential as a loving family member. It’s a lot less than a child requires, so I wonder why so many people just don’t get it? Always a pleasure hearing from you. 🙂

My 3 1/2 yr. old grandson, Benjamin, watched Ray’s video over and over earlier today. He was fascinated by the “high fives” and happy that Ray “shares”. Apples and peanut butter are one of Benjamin’s favorite treats too! Thank-you for the fun video, we both loved it.

Benjamin loves the “puddle dog”! I put it on full screen and he has watched it at least 10 times already. He also saw the banana video, another hit with him. Benjamin says “Thank-you” and wants to tell Ray that he “loves him”! Thank-you for your thoughtfulness!

We do seem to be monopolizing your time these past few days. Benjamin enjoyed watching Ray in both of these videos. Ray is quite the entertainer! We were also led back to one made in June of Ray and his frisbee that Benjamin just loved. Thank-you for taking so much time to please my Benjamin. P.S. Benjamin kissed Ray’s nose on my screen at the end of the June video, a beautiful photo of Ray!

Ooooh…. water melon, carrots, celery and romaine lettuce stalks, rutabaga (swede), etc. etc. He gets so animated when he is chomping away. Pure heaven!

So cute! Cats don’t eat people food, except I do have one that likes one potato chip. Only one. She likes off the salt. Sometimes she eats it and sometimes she just leaves the soggy mess for me to clean up. Unless I pull a full sized tuna out of my itty bitty pond, there is no interest in what I am eating.

The cats in my history would not show much interest in human food except for one! Friday! She loved to climb up (ouch!) onto your shoulder, once you were sitting at the dining table, and lovingly (a big con job!) drape herself over your shoulder and up aginst your neck. As soon as a fork load of food approached, a quick swat with a paw and…………………! 🙂

Yes. Our Emma girl is the same with us. Dogs have such expression. We loved the way your dog moved as you used hand gestures. They know what we are saying from our non-verbal cues.

A trainer told us a story about a lady who was so proud of her dog learning voice commands. She told her dog to sit…. and sit it did! The trainer then asked her to turn her back to her dog, and then ask it to sit. It didn’t! As the trainer explained, dogs have body language (theirs and ours) down to a fine art. When that lady said sit, she unconsciously nodded her head which is what the dog was responding to! Voice sounds are just enhancements to the body language. 🙂

He probably already has that figured out but, displaying a trait that we can all learn from, it’s not important to him… as long as he gets some of it. So many people give their dogs big treats which are not only questionable for health reasons (weight gain), but are not necessary. Ray is not unusual in that he really appreciates a treat regardless of what size it us. 🙂

He’s so adorable! Love how he stares at the plate the whole time. I had a poodle who did the same with bananas. No matter where she was in the house, if you popped a banana off the bunch she came running. Always made me laugh. Ray is such a beautiful dog ❤️

Ray also loves bananas! He is always hovering around when food is a possibility… but he is so patient! He just sits and waits. 🙂

He likes pretty much anything, including peanut butter. He even gets the organic peanut butter (the best!) because the regular stuff often has xylitol added which can be fatal to dogs.

You can buy unsalted peanuts and then blend them with a small amount of coconut oil…perfect treat for humans and dogs!

Yes we do occasionally buy unsalted peanuts, and he loves coconut oil…. but he also loves organic peanut butter! 🙂
