I thought that subject line may get some attention!
I have commented at various times about how/why a particular song makes its impact on me and, as proven by Coinleach Ghlas an Fhómhair, it is not necessarily the lyrics. I have absolutely no idea what this song is about, but love it regardless. For those of you not familiar with Clannad, I hope that this is a lovely introduction to their music.
Soothing melody and slideshow. Sadly my Irish is nonexistent but fortunately one of your readers managed to translate. 😌

I am more familiar with Enya’s music after her two or so years with her brothers, sister and cousins in Clannad. Clannad was another group favored by my younger brother, which was my introduction to them and Enya. This is an amazing piece, understanding the words is not necessary to simply enjoy the music. Yet, how very kind of Maria to share the translation, it is nice to read the lyrics as the music plays. As always, your musical offering are fantabulous! Thank-you and Maria too!

I like this a lot, Colin. Wonderful music for going inside… although, as you said, we have no idea what the lyrics mean!

If you are familiar with Enya, she used to sing with Clannad before going off on her solo career. A lovely sound for sure. 🙂

Yes, I really like Enya’s music. That is interesting that she used to sing with them. So I guess they helped to get her started in the music world.

My pleasure Dorinda. Regardless of all the negatives we see on the TV news, there is such a lot of beauty around which can (and should) be shared. 🙂

Lovely song – and the lyrics are sweet too
On the green stubble-fields of autumn
A stóirín gur dhearc mé uaim
I saw you, my sweetheart
Ba deas do chos i mbróig
Nice were your feet in shoes
‘Sba ró-dheas do leagan siubhail
And wonderful your nimble gait
Do ghruaidh ar dhath na rósaí
Your hair the color of roses
‘Sdo chúirníní bhí fighte dlúith
And your ringlets tightly plaited
Monuar gan sinn ‘ár bpósadh
Alas that we’re not married
Nó’r bórd luinge ‘triall ‘un siubhail
Or on board ship sailing away
Tá buachaillí na h-áite seo
The boys around here are
A’ gartha ‘gus ag éirghe teann
Complaining and getting fired up
Is lucht na gcochán árd
And the ones with the high-piled hair
A’ deánamh fáruis do mo chailín donn
Are making homes for my brown-haired girl
Dá ngluaiseadh Rí na Spáinne
If the King of Spain would
Thar sáile ‘s a shlóighte cruinn
Go abroad with his assembled men
Bhrúighfinn féar is fásach
I would trample pasture and wilderness
‘S bhéinn ar láimh le mo chailín donn
And I would be with my brown-haired girl
Ceannacht buaibh ar aontaigh’
If only my brown-haired girl and I
Dá mbínn agus mo chailín donn
Were buying cows at the fair
Gluais is tar a chéad-searc
Go and come first love
Nó go dtéidh muid thar Ghaoth-Bearra ‘nonn
Until we go over to Gaoth-Bearra
Go sgartar ó n-a chéile
Even if the tops of the branches were parted
Bárr na gcraobh ‘s an eala ón tuinn
And the swan were separated from the waves
Ní sgarfar sin ó chéile
That would not separate us
‘S níl ach baois díbh á chur ‘n mur gcionn
And those who go against us are foolish
