Winter!

I just have to love winter in S. Ontario!

My perspective is really simple. Weather, like much of life, is something that I have no control over. Weather (?) it is -30C (-22F) and extremely dry or weather (?) it is 35C (95F) and oppressively humid … the only control I have is on me, and how I react to it!

It becomes a very simple process of deciding:

a. Do I moan and complain about these extremes of weather, and generally make myself miserable? or

b. Do I embrace our extremes of weather and enjoy the seasonal changes?

Perhaps I am seeing things too simplistically, but I would much rather be happy … than miserable.

Have a wonderful season, whatever it is in your part of the world, and allow me to share ours with you (at least by photograph).

P.S. Sitting in the snow next to me (out of camera shot) is a wonderful dog. He will be in Friday’s Post!

  1. It’s been stinking hot in New Zealand this summer – hotter for longer and stronger than normal. And then I catch myself to think …”in a few months we will be moaning that it is cold!” So enjoy what you’ve go. I seem to remember a poem that said “As a rule, man is a fool. When it is hot, he wants it cool. When it is cool, he wants it hot. Always wanting what is not.”

    • Never heard of that poem, but it is very good. Some people will always moan about what they don’t have, rather than celebrate what they do have. There must have been a “bug” in our evolution process which made so many of us “glass half empty” folk! 🙂

    • Well… whereas I, like many others, have numerous reasons to be unhappy, I prefer to focus on the happy aspects of my life. As noted in the Post, it becomes a matter of choice. 🙂

  2. We have a saying: “There is no bad weather… only bad clothes.” We cannot change the weather but as you said the way we look at it and how we handle it! Happy Valentine’s Day to Carol and you, Colin!

  3. I like your sentiments. 🙂
When I lived in the UK the seasons never bothered me. I didn’t mind cold wet winters with the sun setting at 4 pm, because spring was just around the corner.
Here in CT however, the summers last 8 months and are just too hot and no way to get cool. It’s 8 pm here and I’m still sweltering. I think all seasons should be limited to 4 months each! 😀
I am enjoying your snow photo very much! Love the hat. 🙂

  5. This post made me smile. The words, because it is the cheerful, positive outlook that I have come to count on from you!

The happy picture goes right along with the words. Just one thought.
Ray had snow on his face in his picture of him in the snow. Hmmm…I think your face is missing something. 🙂

  6. Ahh, winter! Always looks so beautiful when other people post photos! I grew up in Mid-West, so I know winter well, but don’t really miss that part where I have to shovel the snow. my dogs, here in AZ are so spoiled, when we have a cloudy day with a possibility of rain, they are already in their hibernating mode and I have to bribe them to go outside. I can’t imagine what they would do in the snow!
