I just have to love winter in S. Ontario!
My perspective is really simple. Weather, like much of life, is something that I have no control over. Weather (?) it is -30C (-22F) and extremely dry or weather (?) it is 35C (95F) and oppressively humid … the only control I have is on me, and how I react to it!
It becomes a very simple process of deciding:
a. Do I moan and complain about these extremes of weather, and generally make myself miserable? or
b. Do I embrace our extremes of weather and enjoy the seasonal changes?
Perhaps I am seeing things too simplistically, but I would much rather be happy … than miserable.
Have a wonderful season, whatever it is in your part of the world, and allow me to share ours with you (at least by photograph).
P.S. Sitting in the snow next to me (out of camera shot) is a wonderful dog. He will be in Friday’s Post!
Great photo of you! From all of the snow covering you, it looks like you were embracing it and having fun. 🙂

It comes every winter, so embracing it and having fun does seem to be the best choice! 🙂

Sounds to me as if you are making a very wise choice. Happy winter!!!

Hi Ann. It’s the only choice that makes sense to me! 🙂

It’s been stinking hot in New Zealand this summer – hotter for longer and stronger than normal. And then I catch myself to think …”in a few months we will be moaning that it is cold!” So enjoy what you’ve go. I seem to remember a poem that said “As a rule, man is a fool. When it is hot, he wants it cool. When it is cool, he wants it hot. Always wanting what is not.”

Never heard of that poem, but it is very good. Some people will always moan about what they don’t have, rather than celebrate what they do have. There must have been a “bug” in our evolution process which made so many of us “glass half empty” folk! 🙂

Please thank Ray for allowing the photographer to take a pix of you enjoying the out-of-doors! You look so happy.

Well… whereas I, like many others, have numerous reasons to be unhappy, I prefer to focus on the happy aspects of my life. As noted in the Post, it becomes a matter of choice. 🙂

I like your sentiments. 🙂
When I lived in the UK the seasons never bothered me. I didn’t mind cold wet winters with the sun setting at 4 pm, because spring was just around the corner.
Here in CT however, the summers last 8 months and are just too hot and no way to get cool. It’s 8 pm here and I’m still sweltering. I think all seasons should be limited to 4 months each! 😀
I am enjoying your snow photo very much! Love the hat. 🙂

That hat was a souvenir from a visit to my son and daughter who live near Vancouver. You can just see the C and the O of VANCOUVER on the hat! The bobbles really appealed, so I just had to treat myself! 🙂

I’m happy for you (and I like that happy grin), but please allow me to wallow in my misery and self-pity when the weather turns cold here. I need sunshine to … shine, for want of a better word.

Well it’s your choice to wallow in self-pity if you so wish. Of course, “wallowing”, with a large glass of something within reach, does have its appeal! 🙂

So how did you get the snow all over your head?

Hi Amy – A combination of lightly snowing while were out, together with a wind blowing it off roofs, trees etc. 🙂

Oh, it is really cold there. Good to see your smile despite fear of frostbite. Do you put on a nose warmer?

No nose warmers here per se … just a very long scarf that wraps around many times, and includes covering my nose! Will email you.

You are right. You have to take winter in stride and enjoy it. I looked out my window this morning though, and that suddenly became very lol.

Oh sorry. It was snowing and blowing and waking up to that is never enjoyable. But yesterday it was over zero and it rained and the snow started to melt, so now the sidewalks and roads are icy. It’s 3:00 pmish now and much nicer though, so hoping some of that ice clears.

I do get frustrated sometimes, but those are fleeting moments. The beauty of icicles and snowflakes and the snow-covered landscape is overwhelming.

It can be frustrating if you focus on the wind that you were not dressed for, or the ice on the sidewalks, or the pools of brown slush. Of course you can also focus on the beautiful blue sky; the areas of untouched snow; the bare trees with snow on their branches; colorful birds (Blue Jays, Cardinals etc. here) that look glorious against a white snowy background. Even the pleasure of returning to a nice warm home is well worth smiling about, as is stopping at a coffee shop and getting a latte “to go”! 🙂

Pools of brown slush… I think that currently is what I curse at most.

Here I am, talking a walk, looking up at the blue sky, enjoying the sun, with a cup of warm tea in hand and then all of a sudden I come to a halt. I have to cross the street. But how? The pools of dirty melted snow are all around me. They’re more than ankle deep. I’m trapped. There’s nothing else to do, but call a rescue helicopter.

I like to whine just a little bit and then I get over it. There is too much good going on to focus on the annoying. Button up the coat and get on with it!

Good to hear. My health is not in for that kind of cold or the humid warm, so I think, that I will stay here in Spain 🙂

Ahh, winter! Always looks so beautiful when other people post photos! I grew up in Mid-West, so I know winter well, but don’t really miss that part where I have to shovel the snow. my dogs, here in AZ are so spoiled, when we have a cloudy day with a possibility of rain, they are already in their hibernating mode and I have to bribe them to go outside. I can’t imagine what they would do in the snow!

You may be surprised at how much they enjoy it. Ray is not so active in the summer but then, with a thick double coat, that is understandable.
