I knew very little about New Zealand, beyond the existence of Wellington, Auckland, North and South Islands, and sheep farming! Today, I know very little more, except that New Zealanders should be very proud of Hayley Westenra. Hayley is considered a classical/popular cross-over singer/songwriter.
“Whispers in a Dream” was written by her. She was apparently so impressed by “Gabriel’s Oboe” (the theme from the movie “The Mission”), that she approached Ennio Morricone (the composer) for permission to use his melody. The story goes that he was so impressed with her lyrics, that he not only gave her permission, but collaborated with her to produce the recording. Enjoy!
Whispers in a dream
The world is quiet and waiting
And all around the air is still
And sings the angels
When all is come to pass
The storm has breathed it’s last
And the rain
Has washed our fears away
Love will find
Whispers in the wind
The clouds part to let the light in
And all around the people sigh
As birds take to the sky
When all is come to pass
The storm has breathed it’s last
And the rain
Has washed our fears away
Love will find
A new song
The world will smile again
Whispers in a dream
The world is quiet and waiting
And all around the air is still
Then sings the angels
When all is come to pass
The storm has breathed it’s last
And the rain
Has washed our fears away
Love will find
A new song
And we can smile again
Beautiful. A very talented young lady Colin.

So beautiful, she is a talented artist and seems wise beyond her years in interviews. I first heard Hayley Westenra sing on television when visiting my family in New Zealand many years ago, I found her voice so enchanting that I bought her first CD. Hayley also performed with Andrea Bocelli in Brisbane when he first toured Australia about 10 years ago and their duet was wonderful, I was so pleased that we had spent the money on the tickets. Thank you for sharing otherwise I may never have heard her sing that song.

Colin, this is so beautiful – and that’s an understatement!! I would love your permission (and Hayley’s?) to repost this over on Learning from Dogs? It really must be shared!!

I cannot speak for Hayley but, as long as her name is associated with it, I don’t think that she would object! Other beautiful Hayley recordings: Profumo di Limone – La Califfa – Once Upon a Time in the West – The Edge of Love – Amalia Por Amor and May It Be. She certainly has a beautiful voice. I have her Paradiso CD and have no regrets! 🙂

Thanks Colin. It will, of course, be fully attributed to Hayley, and to you!
