I was 15-16 during 1962 when this Saturday’s song was released, and yet I still remember it so well. I was not a particularly strong Everly Brothers fan, as I preferred traditional jazz (Kenny Ball), contemporary folk (our local Folk Club), and Petula Clark! Some of you already know that I also loved certain classical pieces. Given my taste in music, together with my many non-musical interests at that time, it surprises me that I still want to play this song periodically. Enjoy!

Loved the Everly Brothers! Of course I preferred Cathy’s Clown although I don’t think they did one I didn’t like. This was our era for sure! Love Petula Clark too and all the British artists of the time.

I was 6 when this was released. It’s one of the first pieces I picked up, though I haven’t played it for a while. I liked the Everly Brothers, and loved Ebony Eyes.

We may be dating ourselves, but there were some really nice songs then. Of course there were some rather questionable ones as well, so I guess times have not really changed too much! 🙂

I am not familiar with this song. I like the style of that era very much and this song appears typical to me… as a child of the 70’s and the 80’s.

That’s so so true, Colin 😅 Today I sang at church. The tenor who sang with me turned out as someone I sing with more than 20 years ago. I was 27 and the youngest of soloists wherever I was engaged. He was 12 and sang with a boys choir at that event. Today He is that age I was back then and I was the oldest soloist today. Yes, all a matter of perspective!

I may not have been born yet when this song came out but I do like some of the Everly Brothers songs, this being one of them. Gives a sentimental, relaxed feeling.

I was 23 in ’62 and I LOVED the Everly Brothers, and Petula Clark, and Elvis, and Perry Como, and Patsy Cline…..yeah, all over the place! This is such a great song, melody, lyrics, harmony. It will never grow old. Haven’t heard it in ages. Thanks for reminding us of it today.

For me, it’s probably a combination of the simplicity of the lyrics, and the close harmonies. It is a very touching song.
