Music is fascinating in that it has an ability to reach us in ways that are difficult to explain. A song can guide us into an emotional state for many reasons but, if the lyrics are either in a different language or are simply perplexing, then we can still be impacted by the vocal tones and/or the melody and musical arrangement. Take away the lyrics, and a whole new scenario presents itself. Without lyrics (or understandable lyrics) to offer direction, we can still be emotionally moved if we allow it. Whether it be a full orchestra playing a classical work, or solo artist playing a contemporary piece, it can still be a wonderful and moving experience.
Instrumental pieces can take me in many directions. Some pieces will lead me into a rather reflective state of mind, while others will encourage isolation to a dreamlike world. Some music will be very relaxing, while other pieces will stimulate my sense of available energy!
By way of change this Saturday, I have linked to an instrumental piece. My suggestion is “crank up” the volume, and allow this late 1960’s heavily percussion driven piece to take over your mind, body and soul. Enjoy!
