“If I could catch a rainbow”

Another “gem” from sorting through an old box!  It was in my handwriting, and much more recent than the 1954 photograph (ref last Tuesday Post) … but I did not create it.

That honor has been claimed by a number of individuals, but I believe the true credit goes to Sandra Lewis Pringle who wrote it for her nephew, who was going through a difficult time.

If I could catch a rainbow
I would do it just for you
and share with you its beauty
On the days you’re feeling blue.

If I could build a mountain
You could call your very own
A place to find serenity
A place to be alone.

If I could take your troubles
I would toss them in the sea
But all these things I’m finding
are impossible for me.

I cannot build a mountain
Or catch a rainbow fair
But let me be what I know best-
A friend who’s always there.

  1. A tender poem, especially knowing that it was written for her nephew who was going through a hard time.
I was “chatting” with someone in the early morning hours who I know could use this poem right now, so thank you for the perfect timing.
I also now have the song “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” going through my head! 🙂
