Ray has not been particularly active this past summer. I am guessing that having a thick double-coat in hot and humid conditions is a significant factor. Who knows what impact his tumor had on him earlier and, of course, he is not getting any younger. In fact it seems incredible that in the seemingly brief time that he has lived with us, he has gone from teenager … to “early” senior!
However, we did recently have a slight drop in temperature and so took him to a nearby conservation area. He had a great time exploring all the new scents, and taking us to the river!
He had a brief splash around, but was generally more interested in eating the good riverside grass! Such simple pleasures. We humans can learn so much from our canine friends Simple pleasures that is … not eating good grass!)!

Ray had a tumor?! Is he okay?

As far as anybody can tell, he is very good. He had an approx 4″ incision so that the vet could remove a generous area around the tumor, and his fur is now growing back over the scar. From the perspective of his personality … he is normal once again! 🙂

Was it cancerous?

Yes. That is why the vet removed tissue from a quite large area around the tumour.

Additional info – It was a mast cell tumour (info below if interested):

We are having our first cool front, and for the first time, it feels like fall. Today (10/11) we expect to get as low as 60 degrees, a needed break from 90+ afternoons.

It’s a lovely retreat within (and from) a sprawling suburban area. 🙂

Ahh! The simple pleasures, like listening to a street musician on a nice summer’s day, a walk in the park, or just sitting and chatting. Yes, I will pass on eating grass though, even a fluffer nutter sandwich is tastier than that, right? 🙂

Mother fluffing nutter sandwiches (or whatever they are called) leave me speechless!

And once again I am glad I wasn’t drinking anything when reading your reply! Yes, they do seem to leave one speechless. ☺️

I’ve heard that some people like good grass. Yes, the simple pleasures are often the best. A snooze in the afternoon, a box of Cheezits, or taking the dog for a walk, are all good enough for me.
