One Year Ago!

On January 18, 2023, our beloved Ray left us.

On January 19, 2023 …………….

I would hear little footsteps coming into my bedroom, but I knew he would never enter again.

I would get a nudge on my elbow as I sat at the computer, but I knew he was not here.

I would hear his footsteps overhead as I sat in the basement, but I knew it could not be Ray.

I had a roll of poop bags in my jacket pocket and later would probably go for a walk, although it would be quite different now.

I looked at his food bowls, knowing that we had no reason to put food in them.

January 19, 2024 ……………….

All those traits that were uppermost in our minds after Ray had gone …….. have been adopted by Nigel without any encouragement from us! He is the perfect dog to share our future with.

  1. Well Colin I can tell you from experience that the footsteps, nudges, and so many other reminders from our angel pups won’t stop. In my case with Kali they have become a little less frequent but still oh so very strong and real and comforting. But of course Kali, like Ray, rescued us and they continue to comfort us in many ways. It’s so great that Nigel is with you and helping to, let’s say, close the gap,a bit. Not a replacement for Ray, but a new canine soul and mate. The melancholy, I hope, will never fade for any of us when we think of our angels. Cheers!

  2. Nigel is gorgeous Colin. Love the picture with his teddy. I can’t believe it’s a year since you lost Ray.
Maya is popular in shops and cafes too. They greet her by name and she sits perfectly at the counters for her biscuit. In cafes she is given a ‘pup cup’ aka pupaccino which is milk froth and a biscuit in a little cup. Maggie was a people magnet which is how she got her name, but Maya is a people dog, and like Nigel, everyone loves her. We are both lucky to have been blessed which such wonderful dogs and all of mine were.

      • Only from the pictures, he appears so “well-behaved” . This may sound peculiar but that was my first impression. Simply a lovely companion that enjoys his life together with “his family”. And not to mention his beautiful curly fur. Really adorable! So, I totally believe that he cannot lose 😃

        • He is all those things, but he does have a stubborn streak and can be devious. If he does not want to do something, he will make it quite clear and then it becomes a battle of strategies. As for being devious? He will behave so well when he is being watched but, as soon as he sees that we are distracted, ……………..!!!!!
