My favourite song from 1962 is a “no-brainer” as I just loved the melody and clarinet tones in “Stranger On The Shore”. I guess many others did as well as I believe it reached No.1 in the UK charts!

I remember this song very, very well! My eldest sister had the single, it held some unknown (to me) romantic significance, and was endlessly played for quite some time. Fortunately, I loved the haunting sound and did not mind the replays. My youngest brother was already a gifted musician and played many of the woodwind family of instruments as well as the piano. He came to love the song for its own merits and soon learned to play it by ear. A lovely old memory revisited! Thank-you!

He was apparently Bernard Stanley Bilk, so who knows where the “Acker” came from!
