Here’s an interesting experience from the other day:
I was sitting in a local café (using their WiFi), and working through various emails, when two men walked in. I think that perhaps they had ordered their drinks and were waiting for them, as they were standing in front of me (which was where their order would be served).
I just happened to glance upwards and noticed that they were both looking at me, or at least in my direction. Given that there was a TV screen mounted on the wall directly behind me, this was not a total surprise so I kept working away.
A few moments later I heard “Excuse me.” I looked up and one of them was clearly addressing me. “Do you know that you have a dime stuck to the top of your head?” he said. I stared at him for a few moments and then said “Pardon?” He repeated “You have a dime stuck on the top of your heard!” and then he touched the top of his head to indicate where it apparently was.
I glanced down at my laptop choosing to ignore the comment, but then I just had to confront him so I looked up again and said “You are telling me that I have a dime stuck to the top of my head?” He nodded. I looked across at the man with him who was now looking a little puzzled and focused on me.
“I really have a dime stuck to the top of my head?” I said. The man who made the initial comment nodded “Yes it is here” he said touching his head once again. I looked directly at him “Are you joking?” “No!” he replied “You really do have a dime on the top of your head!” I put my hand on my head and, sure enough, I felt a dime!
As I picked it off my head, the other man said “Did you really not know it was there?” “No” I said “ I had no idea. I thought you guys were just joking around.” He grinned and said “I thought that as you were playing it so cool, it was clearly some project to get a reaction!” “No!” I said “but the obvious question now is how on earth did it get there?”
It all suddenly became clear! The previous night I had taken all my loose change from my jeans pants pocket and put it in my Tilley hat. It seemed a very obvious way of keeping it all together, and with a guarantee that I would not forget it the following morning. I didn’t! As I was getting ready to go to the café, I scooped up all the loose change; put on my Tilley hat, and clearly left a dime in the hat!
Life can produce the most unpredictable events can’t it?

Oh so Funny ! How the coin managed to balance on your head is surprising.

It was initially surprising, but later not so much! My hat is quite “head warming”; the dime is very small; very light weight, and where it was “stuck” was no hair! 🙂

I thought it very nice of him not to touch your head, but instead he used his head to show you where it was.

It was very diplomatic. If he had approached me with outstretched arm, I would have probably backed away. It was a very weird scene being played out!

With a dime I would expect to get 10 thoughts…

There’s positive thinking for you! 10 thoughts are a possibility, but it would have to be one at a time as I don’t multi-task too well anymore!!!! 🙂

Using “a penny for your thoughts” standard I thought 10. But I would accept one great thought for the entire 10 cents 🙂

Ok Michael… a 10C thought – Yesterday has gone; tomorrow hasn’t arrived yet…… so all you have is today. Celebrate it and use it wisely! 🙂
