This is totally not what I was thinking for today’s song, but I came across Kate Wolf (1942-1986) quite by accident not too long ago, and found this song particularly haunting and thought provoking. Sadly, she is no longer with us.
It’s an unfinished life, that I find lies before me
An open-ended dream, and I don’t want to wake
I’ve crossed so many rivers in search of crystal fountains
I’ve found the truest paths always lead through mountains
I’ve seen water on the sky, and fire burning on the lake
You said to me “I cannot make you happy
Like a wounded bird you must find the strength to fly
Time can paint the tree tops with colours of the rainbow
But you cannot find the end, no matter how you try”
It’s a journey with my soul … that I am taking
One that only goes from the cradle to the grave
Going ’round in circles like painted dancing horses
Up and down we ride, on the wooden courses
And light from a lover’s eyes is all that I can save
You said to me “I cannot make you happy
Like a wounded bird, you must find the strength to fly
Time can paint the tree tops with colours of the rainbow
But you cannot find the end, no matter how you try
So I’ll take the day and run out across the open fields
Where the grass grows high and the shadows fall
Where my eyes can see all the colours in the air
So quiet that the wind whistles in my hair
And takes the rising dust and carries it away
You said to me “I cannot make you happy
Like a wounded bird, you must find the strength to fly
Time can paint the tree tops with colours of the rainbow
But you cannot find the end, no matter how you try”
Brilliant.

Wait, you are posting a Country song?? LOL! Don’t see that much, but I am so glad you did! You are right the song does have a haunting sound to it and its beautiful! I listened to Country music in ths 80’s but don’t remember her at all. Have you listened to more of her songs?

Yes I have 3 of her albums. As for Country music? Most of it does nothing for me either with “the sound” or the lyrics, but I do like some Dolly Parton, Glen Campbell, Tara Lynn Hart, Sylvia Tyson etc. π

I am going to have to look her up! I probably have said this before but Brad would mostly agree with you about Country music. We do enjoy Dolly Parton’s music. Tiya is big time into Country and Jason, well he would rather get hit by a truck when it comes to Country music. Well that may be a slight exaggeration! π

Tell Jason not be so so narrow with music labels. Folk is very similar to Country, and even some Pop/Rock leans in the direction of Country. Jazz and Blues have a strong overlap, and a number of both Jazz and Blues recordings have been in the Pop/Rock genre. He should take each song at its own merit because there is absolutely wonderful, and total crap, in all genres! π

He mostly likes rock but I have got him to listen to Blackmore’s Night. π

Well that’s a start, especially when they are in the Pop/Rock/Trad Folk /Contemp Folk Labeling!

That covers just about everything! LOL!
Did I mention that last week Brad surprised me with another Blackmore’s Night CD? Shadow of the Moon. π They are just sooo good!

Kind of a prophetic song for her–she must have had a premonition. I enjoyed listening to this.
