1966 really was an amazing year of music for me. The Seekers made a huge impact, as did The Beach Boys, The Rolling Stones and Simon & Garfunkel. I have to also mention The Mamas & Papas, The Lovin’ Spoonful, and Marianne Faithful …. where does it end? Well of course it doesn’t end, because there were so many other amazing recordings in 1966.
In 1966 I had started going to a local folk club so, as much as I loved the typical heavy rock sounds, I also loved a simple acoustic performance, hence my initial choice was Joni Mitchell’s “Circle Game”. However, the more I thought about it, the more 1966 has to be given to Judith Durham and The Seekers.
A special memory for me.
Must admit, my first thought for 1966 was Tom Jones and Green Green Grass of Home.

I remember that song, but Tom Jones never really impressed me! 🙂

Was not familiar with this song by the Seekers. I mostly remember Georgy Girl. Will have to add this to my playlist. Thanks for sharing.

If you are not familiar with any of the following (my favourites), then check them out on YouTube:

The 60’s and 70’s were very impressive to me. However, the 80’s were also good as where the 90’s etc. I have some favourites from the past few years as well! My only “just don’t get it” type of music is the “wild” heavy stuff … and angry rap! 🙂

That must be a very tiring song to perform, given that they all had to stay seated while singing it. Nice song, though.

Such a beautiful voice that she has!

And she still has it. Reminds me a little of Vicky Leandros from the early 70’s era in that she too is still singing rather well (ref YouTube).

It is amazing how some singers really are able to keep their voices good, even as they age. Then there are others who still perform and Brad and I wonder why, LOL!

No doubt many reasons for that, but I notice that the successful ones often change the melody a little in order to avoid a high note. There’s nothing worse than an aging singer who tries hard … but does not quite “hit” the note!

Oh yes! You feel embarrassed for fhem as they strain to hit the note.
