Theย Seekers released “The Carnival is Over” in 1965 and, needless to say, it was very popular. What continually amazes me with many bands, is how they can perform their earlier hits with great success around 50 years later … as evidenced in this 2014 video of The Seekers performing “The Carnival is Over.”
Do the math! A 20 year old in 50 years becomes a 70 year old. Judith Durham was born in 1943, which makes her 22 when this song was first released. In this video, she would be 71, but what a wonderful performance. Enjoy!
I had heard of The Seekers but, had to look them up to be sure. Georgy Girl! She has such a stunning voice. That song came out when I was, like, 41 days old.

Terrific. I always loved her voice and it’s as clear and pure now as it was then.
I always associate this with my first Mother in Law as it was the only tune she ever heard me play. It was also what I played at Bro’s first wedding in 1965 instead of reciting my party piece The Dog’s Meeting, and earned me the princely sum of five bob (25p in today’s money!) I was 9!

I got paid 3p/hour to help my Dad in the early 60’s. Given a stick of licorice was 1p, I thought I was doing well!!!!! ๐

Judith has such a soothing tone to her voice.
I agree with Kate, her voice is even more impressive, given her age! They all sounded great.

She’s apparently taken very good care of her voice over the years. I’ll bet she never smoked or drank coffee.

Oh gosh! Coffee doesn’t affect your voice! ๐

I think it does. I can recognize a coffee voice, just like I can recognize a whiskey voice.

Soooooo, what does a coffee voice sound like in comparison to a whiskey voice…just out of curiosity?

Kind of a thin, watery, gargly sound, as opposed to a rough, raspy, froggy sound.

Ah. Thank you. Good to know.

Stop it.
If she was smart, she didn’t smoke. That will FUBAR vocal chords.

Hi Kate. I loved her voice and their harmonies in 1965, and still do!

But at her age, it’s still fabulous! Most get a little tinny or something. Not as full and vibrant. Her vocal chords aged well! ๐
