1968 – A Wonderful Music Year!

There were so many really good sounds and songs for me to lose myself in, in 1968 (I was 22 after all)!  It was very difficult deciding between Fleetwood Mac’s “Albatross, Nina Simone’s “Ain’t Got no ….”, Buffy Sainte-Marie’s “Take My Hand For a While” and so many more. However, 1968 was the year that I was introduced to The Moody Blues … and I loved their sound (and still play various tracks regularly). So my choice for 1968:

“Legend of a Mind” (aka “Timothy Leary”)

My favourite band from the 60’s and 70’s was undoubtedly The Moody Blues. Their 1968 album “In Search of the Lost Chord” included many excellent tracks, but Legend of a Mind stood out because of its structure. Continue reading

“I Dreamed Last Night”

Justin Hayward and John Lodge (both key Moody Blues members) detoured for awhile in their musical journey and, in 1975, recorded a “Blue Jays” (Blue = Moody Blues, and Jays = Justin and John perhaps?) album on which was “I Dreamed Last Night”. Not surprisingly it has a very strong Moody Blues  “flavour” to it with the overall sound, as well as the various melodic and structure changes. Continue reading

“The Story in your Eyes”

I have consistently played, for my own pleasure, 1960’s and 1970’s songs by The Moody Blues. Their albums always had a theme running through them which offered thought provoking moments, so to play a single track is really taking a song out of its intended context. Continue reading
