Yup! Totally relate. Ray has stood motionless staring at the bottom of his crate/den. We lift up the end and he dives under because one piece of kibble was under there! 🙂
Ray was adopted (or did he adopt us?) 7 years ago this month, and he is a very different dog to the one that was up for adoption in 2013 at our local Humane Society! He has gone from being frightened of people and other dogs, to being Mr Social whenever we take him downtown. He has also survived heart-worm, and had a tumour removed. He has jumped off a “viewing platform” with an approx 80ft – 100ft drop, to be saved by his harness, and some quick thinking on our part. Those first 18 months (ref. “Who Said I was up for Adoption?”) were so educational, so demanding … and so ultimately rewarding! 🙂
We’ve got one like that, and it’s not just chips!!! We have no ides who has taught her to ‘paw’ for a hint as it certainly wasn’t us and she didn’t do it when she was a pup!
It never ceases to amaze me how Ray keeps discovering new ways of getting what he wants! I have to remember something I read some time ago now – “Dogs are the only animals that, if you point to something, will look where you are pointing The others will simply look at your pointing finger!”
Ah, he is so well behaved. Which boy doesn’t like chips (which Brand ever…lol).

I have one like that. Could find a crumb in the desert if there was one going spare.

Such kettle chip moments are what makes me be in awe how dogs are so good at communicating with us . That connection is incredible!
Thank you for Re-posting 5 years later. Because such moments are timeless.😊
