We recently took Ray on a trail walk as he seems to love a more natural environment. He buried his nose in the fallen leaves and, moving with purpose, followed scents that we could only guess at. Rocket Boy!
Ray impresses me in so many ways. Of course, he being my first dog probably means that I am easily impressed however, at this moment I am just thinking about his sprint capacity! Given that Ray is my first experience of living with a dog, a number of his idiosyncrasies I simply put down to probably typical rescued dog behaviour. These would be situations like laying at my feet when I am preparing food; staring at me while I am consuming food; standing behind me hoping that I’ll trip over him and drop some food; climbing into the refrigerator (figuratively speaking of course) with me, just hoping that his mouth will bump into food. Most nights, I have some degree of sleeping issues which generally dictate that I put the headphones on and listen to music for a short while, or I just get up and find something quiet to do, and the other night was really bad. The Snow Pile!
Snowflakes can come visiting at any time now, although I rather hope that I can have a few more weeks without them. It’s not that I don’t like the snow, but rather once it starts it never seems to go away. Every new snow fall layers itself very carefully on top of the last one and with the continual accumulations, together with some very low temperatures, I am generally wishing for spring weather by March. The good neighbour
Carol and I took Ray out for a walk the other evening, but this time we needed to go over the road to give a neighbour a thank you card and book for allowing us to park on her driveway while ours was having a make-over! Ray has ongoing issues with people he does not know very well, the reasons for which can only be speculated upon however, we are working on it and he is responding quite well to the concept that people = treats. Sometimes I look at Ray and I am in total conflict with feelings of sadness for his past life, and happiness with having him here. His past life really is an unknown but there are a lot of indicators pointing towards less than desirable circumstances. When I first met him he was expressionless, distant, vocal, and reactive.
