Twas A Month Before Christmas 2020!

Twas A Month Before Christmas …

T’was a month before Christmas,
And all through the town,
People wore masks,
That covered their frown.

The frown had begun
Way back in the Spring,
When a global pandemic
Changed everything.

They called it corona,
But unlike the beer,
It didn’t bring good times,
It didn’t bring cheer.

Contagious and deadly,
This virus spread fast,
Like a wildfire that starts
When fuelled by gas.

Airplanes were grounded,
Travel was banned.
Borders were closed
Across air, sea and land.

As the world entered lock-down
To flatten the curve,
The economy halted,
And folks lost their verve.

From March to July
We rode the first wave,
People stayed home,
They tried to behave.

When summer emerged
The lock-down was lifted.
But away from caution,
Many folks drifted.

Now it’s November
And cases are spiking,
Wave two has arrived,
Much to our disliking.

Front-line workers,
Doctors and nurses,
Try to save people,
From riding in hearses.

This virus is awful,
This COVID-19.
There isn’t a cure.
There is no vaccine

It’s true that this year
Has had sadness a plenty,
We’ll never forget
The year 2020.

And just ‘round the corner –
The holiday season,
But why be merry?
Is there even one reason?

To decorate the house
And put up the tree,
When no one will see it,
No-one but me.

But outside my window
The snow gently falls,
And I think to myself,
Let’s deck the halls!

So, I gather the ribbon,
The garland and bows,
As I play those old carols,
My happiness grows.

Christmas ain’t cancelled
And neither is hope.
If we lean on each other,
I know we can cope.

I dream ….

The following was posted in February of last year, but it seemed very appropriate to copy it forward! If more people grasped the concepts noted in the poem, the world would surely be a much happier place. Continue reading

If I could catch a rainbow…

I was sorting through a box of old photographs in my “get the pics in albums” project, and came across this handwritten poem in my writing. While it is very good, I know that I did not create it so must have copied it from somewhere. Continue reading

“The Time of Year”

I am quite confident that many of you, like me, are not getting caught up in the Christmas hype just yet … but perhaps in a couple of weeks? Continue reading

“The River”

As my regular Followers know very well, I rarely do a “flashback” Post. Continue reading

“Just Thinking” Review

I never really liked poetry since being introduced to it at school. The fact that I ended up publishing a book of poetry therefore raises a rather obvious question. Continue reading

Book! Book! Book!

Given our recent erratic weather which is culminating, as I write this, into a major snow storm accompanied (just to make it more exciting) by strong winds … Mother Nature has had/is having a high degree of influence over how I spend my time. Continue reading

Welcome …

… to the many new bloggers that have clicked the Follow button (or otherwise followed) this past few months. I do hope that you will return and check out the site. If you have a good imagination, find yourself a nice comfortable chair; help yourself to a latte (or whatever your taste dictates); put your feet up and give yourself a tour of the various categories. “If I could catch a rainbow”

Another “gem” from sorting through an old box!  It was in my handwriting, and much more recent than the 1954 photograph (ref last Tuesday Post) … but I did not create it. Continue reading

It’s all in the details!

I have always been interested in “the details”! Part of that is probably genetic, and part early life styling. Continue reading
