We just recognized Ray’s 8th year with us (that’s 8 years of us not having a life unless he is included), which translates into him being about 10-1/2 years old now. Doesn’t time just fly when you’re having fun. 🙂

He is a good looking “guy” and has huge dark brown eyes. One of the first things a trainer taught us was to teach him to make (and hold) eye contact. The basis being that if he is not looking at you, then much of his training will be challenging. We did a very good job and he uses his eye contact to his full advantage! What would life have been like without Ray? I’m sure you’ve pondered that many times as I have with my Kali (almost 7 years since she joined the pack). Any way I slice it the answer is always life would not have been as complete or joyful.

Hi Michael. I recently commented somewhere else that my history of pets was cats and rabbits. If anybody had told me how totally different a dog would be, I would have doubted they knew what they were talking about. Somebody once told me (or perhaps I read it somewhere?) that if you want a pet as a lodger in your home … get a cat. If however you want to expand your family … get a dog. So very true!

It’s a funny thing about pets. I never focus on their age until one day I realize they are considered senior or geriatric or old (pick your adjective). It’s like it happens overnight.

Is it really that long? It seems hard to imagine him not being a part of your life. Hugs and treats by proxy. He’s still gorgeous, even if going a little peppery in the face.

He really is, and I can only imagine how cute he was as a puppy. Regardless, somebody somewhere did not want him around way back then, but he did well when he picked us as his pack, and then proceeded to train us. 🙂
